Rákóczi Castle in Szerencs was constructed in a marshy area at the end of the 16th century. It consists of two main parts, which are the inner castle and the outer castle, also known as the Huszárvár. Originally, the latter was little more than a castle wall studded with bastions, to which stables, a blacksmith's workshop, a kitchen, as well as several other workshops and accommodation were added from the inside over time.
The Huszárvár was converted into a hotel and restaurant, keeping the theatre and the multi-purpose lobby and exhibition hall. During the renovation and extension work, the skylights were replaced, new rooms were designed in the attic above the restaurant, and a staircase and a lift were also installed.
The historic character of the Castle was preserved as much as possible in the new parts, and the original atmosphere was reaffirmed with modern additions.
