Oroszlános Wine Hotel

Renovations Tállya
001

Architect: Ede Gulybán

Interior designer: Lajos Tompos

As a reference to its ornate gate, the old Szirmay mansion became known as the Oroszlános house, meaning 'The House with Lions'. Oroszlános Wine Hotel was opened here in 2012. Built in the 17th century, the noble mansion was comprehensively reconstructed at the end of the 18th century, and then modernised again in the 19th century, while preserving the former glory of the building.  The house stood through turbulent times during the 20th century. After World War II, its decorations were plastered over and its interior was carved up into several apartments. In 2006, the new owner restored the street façade to its original condition, extended the building and opened a restaurant in it.

Using the neighbouring vacant lot, a hotel wing was added in 2012, which was envisioned to resemble the space of a traditional manor house. This transformation highlighted the beauty of the original building and the unique character of the street fence. The new wing was designed to harmonise with the style of the settlement image and to match the height of the existing sections.
