HAYWARD’S HOUSE, KAPOSI VINEYARD

Old Buildings Erdőbénye
001

There are two small stone structures amidst the grape plantations on Zsákos Hill, which towers over the village of Erdőbénye. The landscape of the hill’s western side is enlivened by a hayward’s house situated in the Kaposi vineyard. The structure surrounded by walnut trees must have been a temporary abode, suitable for one or two nights, which is suggested by a fireplace built into the back wall. It is noteworthy that virtually the entire house was built using stone, except for the shutters of the window and the door, which are made of steel. The simple interior has a small floor area and is covered with an interestingly complex vaulting. A natural stone staircase leads up onto the crenellated[AH1]  (flat) roof, from where a magnificent view opens onto the settlement and the surrounding landscape.
